Iceland defeated Sweden 52-37 today where Sylvia Rún Hálfdanardóttir scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Inga Rún Svansdóttir scored 9 points and Linda Amy Róbertsdóttir 8

The team had previously defeated Estonia 61-34, 69-41 Norway and Finland 70-59.

And yet… The Small nation don’t have the finances or the depth of talent to consistently field a team in the European Championships. This year the u18 team will feature in the B Championships and take on Denmark England Israel and Switzerland in Romania.   A group they stand every chance of qualifying from, especially if they are to use some of their most talented u16’s to bolster the squad. The current u16’s have a few talented individuals, talented enough to win the Nordic Championships and are just short of few pieces to be able to really competitive at the top level.  Some of these young players have discussed their interest in playing College Basketball with Blue Star Europe and are legitimate Division one talent.  However they will remain unknown to many due to their absence from regular European circuit.  As ever Blue Star Europe continues to find the  talent! Iceland are on my Map!!
