Blue Star Europe takes a look at how some of Europe’s finest coped in their freshman year

First up Kansas State’s Leti Romeroleti romero

The only K State player to start in all of their 30 games the strong Spanish guard avg 14.2 pts a game. Making 38 three pointers of 97 attempts whilst dishing out 149 assists.  She was named the Big 12 freshman of the week after averaging 20.5 points per game in wins over Tennessee State and Charlotte and just missed a triple-double with 23 points, 10 boards, and 9 assists against Oklahoma.  When I asked her about her first year she was quick to point out that ” the speed and physicality of the game was the most difficult thing to get used to” however this didn’t deter from enjoying all the positives of this year ” The experience of meeting new people, getting involved in a new culture and learning a great deal in every respect.”

During her recruitment she placed a great deal of emphasis on the relationships she built with the coaches recruiting her.  Final decision came down to that factor, which is not uncommon for many European prospects, with limited knowledge of the difference between schools, campus style, location, conference, facilities ” I choose a place where you believe in the program, where you know people are going to care about you and going to give you confidence to bring the best out of you”.  Her advice to other potential European recruits when making final decisions where to play for four years “Its always going to be a kind of a risk you have to take. But when I chose K-State I was 99% sure that it was right for me. I put a lot of effort in getting to know the coaches. I built a great relationship with the coach that was recruiting me. ”  Of course she missed home, who wouldn’t but is looking forward to the next chapter in her time at K State with no regrets
