Great Britian u20’s chance to show they are contenders for promotion to Division A starts tomorrow in Albena Bulgaria. First test is F.Y.R. of Macedonia. Less than 12 months ago England’s u18’s managed to squeeze past the host nation in Strumica 57-53 in the u18 Division B Championship opening game. After that England went on to secure promotion – looking at the rosters for tomorrows clash not a lot has changed…Will the result?
Great Britain are missing two key players from that earlier campaign Jay-Ann Harriott and Cheridene Green, they have also suffered with further injuries to senior players, but have added some fire power with senior guard Rosie Hynes and the quick improving Flo Ward. Inside, Harriet Ottweill-Soulsby who was drafted to the Senior women’s team will be a key player.
Whilst Macedonia are without Ivana Kmetovska who is in her new home Washington State University for summer school. Stojanovska will try to repeat her stellar performance last time round leading Macedonia with 22 pts and 14 rebounds.
Shequila Joseph will look to start this campaign with a bang as she will be heavily relied upon as a key starter for the u18 team later on in the summer.
GB have had a solid preparation for this tournament and now it’s time to produce the results. Head Coach Matt Johnson “The weight of importance is most certainly carried with us as we now feel ready to go into what promises to be a very testing tournament in Bulgaria.”
